Your Soybean Video is due to me on or before December 10th.  That’s next week Wednesday.  Here’s a link to the rules.  The last page is the entry form that must accompany your entry.

Please remember that this assignment is a requirement for this class.

Other reminders – Fruit comes in Tuesday, December 2 (tomorrow). They claim the truck will be here at 7:30 a.m.  I’ll bring donuts for those of you who come to help unload the truck!

State Leadership – leave Sunday at noon, be home Monday night at about 7:00 or so.  All information that you should need is in the email I sent you last week.

On your blog, react to what you saw.  How have words made a difference in your life?  Is there a time when a different set of words could have changed everything much like the new words in the video.  They basically said the same thing, but in a different way.  We use words everyday to communicate a host of different ideas, emotions, and information.  How could you choose your words more carefully to convey your meaning in a better way?

Just a few notes for today:

Score sheets from Monday night are in the green tub marked District CDEs on the back table. Please, feel free to take a look and see where you or your team could improve. Please, do not take the score sheets, I have not looked at them yet.

Fruit sale- how’s it going? Keep me posted please. I emailed a few of you about an order that Mr. Swatek took a call about.

Soybean videos are due December 10th!

Congratulations to Rachel Schartz who has been named. Finalist in the BIG Idea competition. Honorable Mention went to Ashlynn, Jared and Trey.

State Leadership is Sunday and Monday December 7 and 8 in Pierre. I’ll be registering us on Monday the 24th. We will leave around noon on Sunday and be back Monday evening around 6 or so.

Thankful

Soybean videos are due to me December 10th.

Fruit orders are due Monday or Tuesday next week.  You’ll spend part of next week adding up the fruit sale and punching orders into the spread sheet.

District Leadership CDEs are here Monday, November 17th.  We’ll start as close to 4:00 p.m. as possible.  We have A LOT more competitors than usual this year, so it will take a while.  Make sure you are prepared!

1233It’s November, and the time of year that we seem to be thinking about people or  things we are grateful for.  We just celebrated Veteran’s Day yesterday where our thanks are directed at members of the military who have served to protect our freedom.

How do you or could you say thank you to someone who has done something for you or helped you without actually saying the words?  In what ways could you show your appreciation for others efforts on your behalf? Who are one or two people in your life that you appreciate because they’ve done something that matters in your life? What has been their contribution to your success or what have you learned from them?  I challenge you to follow through and show that person or people your appreciation in some way in the coming days!

This time next year

If you have not sent me your Leadership CDE preparation materials, please do that today! If you are unsure what you need to do, refer to this post.

Keep working on your SAE records and Soybean Videos.  To date, I have not seen any finished videos.  Information about the contest is available here.  Videos will be due to me no later than Wednesday, December 10, 2014!

ATTENTION – If you are looking for a fun way to earn your FFA jacket (Ryan Titus) This Saturday from 9:30 – 2 we have been asked to work an event at Sunshine.  It amounts to standing at stations in the store and handing out samples to customers (and eating those same samples all day long).  It’s an easy way to earn your jacket or some bonus points (Braden).  Please let me know if you plan to work.

#myAGstory

You can watch live streaming and archived video of convention here.

Our speaker last night discussed the importance of ag advocacy.  If we, as agriculturists, don’t tell our story, the masses will believe anything that’s out there.

This info graphic is one I captured at the Expo during convention:

As you can see, the hashtag for this movement is #myAGstory.  The idea is for folks to tell their story, start the conversations about American agriculture.  Check out Twitter sometime and you’ll see quite a few posts, in fact, it was trending last night!

So, what’s your Ag story?  What’s your tie to American agriculture?  Do you come from a long line of family farms? What do you believe is the importance of telling our story.  What false or mis-leading advertisements have you seen in the media in the past?

Congratulations Trojans on your very decided victory against the Braves last night!  One down, three to go!

Kelli Garry, our National Officer Candidate advanced through the cut last night and moves on to further interviews the remainder of the week!  National Officer elections will take place Saturday afternoon.  You can watch live on RFD-TV if you are interested.

Ditch the Rule

We will register for Jackrabbit Invite on Friday.  I will need to email our written material at that time.  Don’t worry if your Market Plan, Ag Comm, Ag Issues, Speech, resume etc. is not flawless.  You’ll just continue to work on it between now and November 6th when we compete, and continue through the District paperwork deadline (November 12).  It’s more about getting the experience of getting through the CDE, we’ll worry more about winning at Districts and State than at Jackrabbit.

To meet the requirement for this class you all must prepare for two CDEs and submit materials to me by November 4th.  Check your options here.

I’m really hoping that you’ll be able to get to this site. So, let’s try that first.

Assuming that students can access the sight, take some time and do a bit of reading.  What is the issue?  Give me the Reader’s Digest version (short and sweet explanation) of what all the fuss is about.  Where do you stand on the issue?  How is what this piece of legislation has turned into NOT what Congress had in mind?  Does the EPA have the right to do what they are proposing?

Temptations and nagging

So far, one project has been submitted. Your submission is due on October 20th. That’s next Monday!  If you’re still working on graphics for the logo design, that can be submitted after the 20th, but your business plan is due the 20th.

We register for Jackrabbit Leadership Invite on the 24th.  I will need your printed materials i.e.: job Interview resume and letter, prepared speeches, market plan, ag comm media plan, and ag issues portfolios prior to that time.  They have to be submitted with our registration.

Have you touched your SAE records lately?  The quarter ends next week, October 22nd,  there will be an SAE grade based on what you’ve entered into AET and if you are up to date.

How’s your Soybean video coming?  Has anyone submitted theirs yet?

All leadership CDE material for a grade for this class is due on or before November 4th.  Check this post for requirements.

The attention span of a goldfish

Time is running rapidly out on your work on the BIG Idea. Your submission is due October 20th.  It’s also time to really hit it hard on any Leadership CDE printed materials.  They are due to me by 9:00 a.m. on October 23 so that we’ve got things ready to submit for Jackrabbit Invite by their due date of October 24th.

All students will complete preparation for two Leadership CDEs – whether you are competing or not.  Your materials are due for a grade on or before November 4th.  For information specific to these requirements, see this post.

For today, I’ve seen lots of stories lately about Cell Phone Addiction.  I witness it every block in my classroom.  Check out these four signs that you may have a problem:

  1. Do you panic when you’ve misplaced your phone?
  2. Are you on your phone during social situations or in the presence of family?
  3. Do you carry your smartphone everywhere, even to the bathroom?
  4. Do you go to sleep and wake up looking at your phone?

On your blog – react to what you saw and heard. Do you exhibit signs of a cell phone addiction? What’s your plan for changing that habit?  If you’re not one of those addicted to their phones, tell me about your experiences with friends or family who are.  It always amazes me when my husband and I are out for dinner and the groups around us are all on their phones.  Seems they’d rather be with who ever they are texting than the people they are with.  It makes me wonder why they’re not with the person or people on the phone instead of the folks they’re with?  Does your family or your group of friends have any rules regarding cell phone use at meal time?  Tell me all about it.

Screen Shot 2014-09-30 at 8.15.50 AMIt’s almost October, so it’s really time to get going on this!  The deadline is October 31.  However, many of us will be away at Naional Convention at that time so I am moving the deadline UP to October 20th.

All paperwork for Jackrabbit Invite (prepared speeches, ag comm, market plan, job interview etc is due October 24th.  You’ve got about 3 weeks to get things ready to go.  NOW is not too soon to start!
