Personal Prisons

We lock ourselves up in all sorts of “prisons”.  These prisons lock us away from our accomplishments, relationships, achieving our goals, trying something new…..

What personal prisons have you built for yourself out of fears?  What things are you afraid of that are keeping you from really achieving greatness?  Do you fear not being good at something right away and that’s keeping you from even trying it?  Does your fear of not being good enough keep you from playing basketball or going out for wrestling, or participating in some other activity or hobby?  Does that fear keep you from having awesome experiences with teammates?  Wouldn’t riding the bench at a state tournament be a great opportunity to support your teammates and learn more about the “game”? If you were too afraid to even go out for the team, you never would have had those experiences.  Does the fear of rejection keep you from asking out that special someone? What do you have to loose – all they can say is yes, or no?  Prisons limit our freedom and ability to do things.  How have you limited your own ability to do something because of fear; or sheer laziness?  What things are you afraid of that keep you from trying something?  Conversely, do you have friends who can’t step over their fear of failure to try something new?

IF life ended at 40…..

Many of you would be approaching the half way point in your lives.  How would you change your life if you knew that 40 would be the end?  I used to think of 40 as old, until I approached and passed that age.  How would I live differently if I knew my end was nearer?  What would you do differently?  Who would you surround yourself with?  What things would be more important to you? What bucket list items would you work on checking off?  What things would become less important to you?

Is it Milk or Nut Juice?

Read this article

In order to complete this post – you will need to read the article AND complete some research of your own.

What is the article about?  Who regulates what can be labeled as “milk”? How do they define milk?  What other naming arguments does the article discuss? What steps will have to be followed in order for the regulating body to force name changes of soy and almond etc “milk” products?  How is “milk” made from almonds, soy, or coconut?  How much “plant based milk” is consumed in the United States?  Which source (coconut, cashew, almond etc) makes up the largest market share of non dairy milk?  Is there pending legislation that hopes to regulate this issue?  What are your thoughts?  Do you think all white liquids sold in the refrigerated case in the grocery story should be labeled as milk?  Why or why not?

GMO Safety vs Organic

Today we’ll be doing a bit of research on GMO Safety.

images

Check out this site and do some reading and video watching.  What parts of the world, if any, lean more to the anti GMO side of things?  Find an online source that discusses the downfalls or safety issues of GMO products.  List that site on your blog. What does the term Organic mean with regard to food production?  Is there a group that oversees the labeling of Organic products?  Following your research, what’s your opinion of GMO’s?  Do you think they are safe for human consumption or animal feeding?  Which do you feel is better, GMO or Organic?  Why?

Appreciation

How can you say Thank you without using any words?  There are so many people that help us in big and small ways throughout our lives.  In what ways can we show our appreciation for the efforts of others on our behalf?  What people in your life do you take for granted, expecting that they will always be there to fulfill a specific need?  How does it make you feel when you have done something for another and they either don’t seem to notice or don’t appear to appreciate the sacrifice you have made for them?  Identify three people in your life and tell me what they have done specifically for you.  Next – layout your plan for showing them your appreciation – without using words.  How did their act of sacrifice change or improve your life or day?
